Crypto trend following with moving averages
Hold a coin only while it trades above its own average price: 50 days for the fast version, 100 days for the slow one.
The rule
Compare each coin with its average price over the last 50 or 100 days. Above the average: hold it. Below: sell that coin and keep its share in cash.
Why people use it
Crypto bear markets are long and deep: falls of 70% and more have happened several times. A coin spends most of such a fall below its average, so the rule sits it out.
Where it hurts
Crypto is jumpy, and the price crosses its average often. Every false crossing costs a commission and a small loss. After a sharp bottom the rule buys back late.
How our bot runs it
One bot splits the account between bitcoin and ether and holds each only above its 50-day average. Another keeps half for bitcoin and half for five altcoins, each held only above its 100-day average. Both are checked once a week.
Live account
A virtual $100,000 account that follows this rule. Every trade is on the bot's page.
